Whether you are a long-time member of the Berkshire community—or you are just discovering us today—you may have noticed a newly-implemented message on some of our pages: What We Do Matters.
Since the recent expansion of our consulting team with Biddle’s talented EEO and Affirmative Action unit, Berkshire is taking this opportunity to reflect on our shared histories and explore the possibilities that lie ahead.
We are still Berkshire, but we now possess not only the talent that our new team members bring, but also their perspectives, their institutional knowledge, and their passion for the work we do.
What We Do Matters was initially a refrain adopted by Biddle back in 2021, and it was a way to remind everyone—from our internal staff to our clients and prospects—that the important work of affirmative action makes an impact in the world.
At the highest level, the work we do every day is aimed at creating a more equitable world.
What we do as Berkshire employees—guiding our clients through the complexities of affirmative action planning, pay equity, and DEI—has an impact on your businesses, and the federal contracting community at large. And what you do matters as well.
We believe in what we do. We understand the importance. Because at the end of the day our work impacts real people. What we do and how we do it can determine whether qualified individuals in our communities are presented with employment opportunities—or whether their fates are decided based on their race, gender, and other arbitrary characteristics. Our work can make the difference between someone being shut out in the cold or landing their dream job.
This is not just another slogan or tagline that will be forgotten as soon as the ink is dry. Berkshire’s commitment to equitable employment in this country has been woven into our DNA for many years. It’s the reason we do what we do, and it always has been. But, particularly as we grow our organizational footprint, it can be easy to focus more on the day-to-day deadlines and deliverables, obscuring the bigger picture.
In bringing this message to the forefront, we are grounding ourselves in purpose, even as we set our sights on new horizons.
